Really, wasn't feeling up for this race. I had a rough night sleeping and was a little tired and sick from doing a lot of yard work yesterday afternoon and then doing an 8 mile run late last night. When I woke up and heard it was raining I thought that would be a good enough excuse to miss the race. However, since I had paid the entry fee already, I forced myself to get out of bed and made it over to the race.

I did an easy 2 mile warm-up with Austin, a little bit with Bill and Steve

1-5:51 Feeling pretty good. Austin took off from the start, which I figured he would. Steve and I were running together.

2-5:35 Another good mile

3-6:05 A short hill in this section. Steve put about 5 seconds on me here

4-6:15 Start of the big hill, not really feeling like I'm in a race

5-6:53 This is the most difficult part of this race, pretty much uphill the entire mile.

6-6:21 Just cruising along. Steve is about 20 seconds ahead, but at this point I have no real desire to try to push the pace and catch him

.2-.40

Overall 37:42 (6:04 average) 3rd overall and second age group.

I wasn't disappointed with my time or place, but I really didn't feel like it was my best effort either. Anyway it was good to get in some quicker miles.

1 mile walk/jog cool down

One nice thing about the blog is I can go back and read my race reports from previous years. I didn't run this race last year because I was injured, but in 2007 I ran 37:34 with much better weather. Interesting my race, splits and attitude were all about the same in 2007.

2006 ran 38:40. so still a minute faster this year and I didn't even feel good.

Went out tonight and did 4 easy miles to put me right at 60 for the week. My body is telling me 60 miles a week right now is enough. I've really been bothered with hip/groin/SI joint problems again. Hopefully, some stretching tonight and tomorrow plus a day of rest will help. Ran in the new Speedstars tonight, they felt pretty good.

Great result for not feeling it. Plus, it looks like you have shed another pound. We are going to need a new blog title for you.

Great race Dustin! I heard that is a tough course! I will be in St. George Wed night. So let me know what day you can run the Hurricane half course. Good job today!

Way to get out there when you don't feel it!

Hey, good run Dustin. I was gonna run out there to watch but couldn't get out the door in time. Looking forward to the Hurricane Half!

Good job. Did you win any Pearl Izumi shoes for placing third?

No shoes this time, just a $15 gift card toward a pair of shoes, which I gave to a lady that used to be in my ward. She was excited to get the card so hopefully she'll be into the St. George Running C enter soon to get some new shoes and give them some business

Dustin if you could run the half course on Saturday I would be up for that. I will also be there Thursday night for the group run. I don't know if I am going to try and race Hurricane or just run it semi slow? I really want to run well at Ogden, it is only 13. Ogden is 2 weeks after but I want to do well in that half. Aren't you running the Marathon? Does this course beat you up, or is it quick to recover from?

Thanks everyone!

Tyler- I ran both the Hurricane Half and Ogden Half 2 years ago and ran almost identical times for both races, even though I think the Ogden Half should be much faster. I'm would like to try to improve my time on the Hurricane Half course, so I will probably try to push it as hard as I can. I am running the Ogden Marathon, but I don't think I'm in the kind of shape I need to be in to try to run a PR.
