Went to the chiropractor yesterday and got a good adjustment again. Last week he identified the problem as a strain of the sacroiliac joint. He said the problem is mainly coming from having a really weak right leg and ankle, which makes a lot of sense since that is the ankle I had injured so many times. Anyway, after the session today, he said there was a lot of good movement and the hip wasn't as tight as last week. In fact he said, I should be fine to get back to some easy running. What I really need to do is improve my stretching and start lifting some weights to improve my strength.

I've also decided to go back to the logging template that logs shoes

Played basketball this morning for 40 minutes, didn't move too fast, but trying to get a little movement back in my legs and hips. I'm going to try to run a few easy miles tonight after work. Went and did 2 easy miles up to the fire hydrant and back home 7:45 average pace, then did 1.5 miles on the grass field at the church next to my house. I was trying to determine if it would be a very good place to ever do some speed work. It is nice that it is on grass, but my overall assessment was not that great, I think the footing isn't the best, and some of the corners would be a little tight to turn. I'm going to go and ran around a few more places in Hurricane later in the week. Since I've lived down here I've mainly done speed workouts on the Hurricane track, but running on the track gets kind of old. When I lived in Colorado, we had a great complex with quite a few soccer fields which made it nice to run repeat 800s and 1600s on the grass.

Club run tonight from the store down through Sunbrook golf course, then back on Sunset. I didn't feel too bad starting out and the first 4.5 miles went pretty good. However, I struggled the last 3 miles. My hip started to really tighten up running up Sunset, Bill was kind enough and ran with me tonight. I had to stop and walk for a few minutes, but I was able to stretch out the hip a little and started up again. Average pace was 8:20, like I said the first 5 miles we were well under 8:00 min pace and not feeling too bad, just taking it easy, but then stopping and walking messed up our overall pace.

I ran in my Nimbus- 369 and used the Superfeet inserts which felt ok.

Ran from my house out to the Intermediate School, 4 miles average 8:20 didn't feel that good, hip was still sore, but not as bad, I was feeling kind of light headed and maybe a bit dehydrated. Anyway, I worked out in my classroom for awhile and was going to run back home, but didn't feel too good, so I had Sunny come and pick me up.

Pretty busy day, but did 3.5 miles on the treadmill. Did 1 mile easy warm-up, then did .5 miles faster, followed by .25 miles recovery. Hip was a little tight, but I think the exercise helped loosen it up a little.

Busier today than yesterday, but got in a better workout. Got home from work at 6:30 but just barely had my first real scare with driver's education tonight we about got hit down on riverside drive pretty scary, similar reaction to when I'm running on the trails with the club and something goes wrong. After scout tonight I did 2 miles on the treadmill, but got sick of that pretty quick. Even though it was pretty dark, I did two miles out on the road. My wife get worried about me running in the dark, but I was pretty safe tonight. First mile up past the bridge 7:15, back home was 6:45 so I'm starting to feel a little better.

Longest run since the marathon, and it had its ups and downs, plus the wind was blowing very hard the whole time. I ran over the 600 North powerline trail to Sky Mountain Golf Course and back. The first 4 miles felt good and I moved along pretty good. At the golf course I got a quick drink, then did a few laps around a couple of fairways actually ran a mile on the course. Coming back I started to struggle, I don't think I've been drinking enough lately, actually let me rephrase that enough of the proper liquids. I've been downing sodas no problem, time to get back to the water and gatorade. Anyway, overall happy to have gotten the run in, I got a little cold toward the end of the run. My right hip is still bothering me, but I tried not to think about the pain as much today.

Yesterday was my longest run since the marathon, and tonight was probably my best run since the marathon. Ran 7 miles with the club from the store down the bike trial over to Dixie Drive then back up to Sunset, then down to Lava Flow, back up past the balls field, then back to the store on the bike path. 7:20 average and felt pretty good for most of the run, slowed down a little the last two miles and finished with Bill. I had to return the favor, he waited for me last week, when I was really struggling. I'm still not sure how this half marathon is going to feel, I still have quite a bit of discomfort in the hip area.  I just figure I will try to take it pretty easy and run it more like a nice longer run.

Well, I really didn't know what to expect from this race. I haven't been training much since the marathon in October. I really struggled for about 4 weeks after the marathon just trying to recover. I was having trouble walking and evening sleeping at night. The hip problems I had all summer, got even worse with the marathon and my recovery has taken a lot longer than I thought it would. Anyway, I did start training again last week on a more consistent basis, but only got in 18 miles. This week has been better, but I still didn't feel ready for a race, let alone a half, but Steve got me into the race, so I figured I better show-up and at least give it some effort. My goal going in was just to try to break 1:30 and use it as a longer training run. I told myself not to worry too much about time or place, in fact I didn't even want to wear my racing singlet, because I felt like I wasn't ready to race. However, I did wear my racing singlet and even flats.

After riding the bus up to the start, I got out a did maybe .5 mile warm-up. I also did some stretching and figured I would take the first few miles easy.

1-5:23 Very steep downhill, I was really trying to hold back. Their was the usual amount of people that sprinted out from the starting line. I figured I was in about 20th place after the first mile.

2-5:40 Another steep downhill mile, Running much faster that I had planned.

3-6:26 At this point, I've passed about 10 guys so I'm back in the top 10 and things are starting to spread out.

4-7:08- Clyde passes me heading back the other way on the trail, we are supposed to turn around on. He was flying, but something told me things weren't right. Turns out, people on the course told him to turn back way before he was supposed to. Anyway, I feel bad about that. The funny thing, they still said he won the race in 42:00 something and called his name to come up and get his overall male award.

5-7:15-Slow going climbing a slight hill on a dirt road.

6-7:11- I get to the turn around and count 9 guys ahead of me. But I figure I should be able to pick off a few of them the second half.

7-6:33- Get two guys on this mile

8-6:26- Get another guy on this mile, and I'm actually feeling pretty good.

9-6:53-Not really trying to push it

10-6:26 Running alone

11-6:40-Relaxed

12-6:38 Just taking it easy

13-6:36 Nice and easy to the finish.

.1 48

Overall 1:26:10 6:34 average and no major hip pain!

No run, today.  The half on Saturday took more out of my legs, than I thought it would.  Hope to get in some miles tomorrow.  Glad to see both the Broncos and the Jazz win last night.  It starts off a good week and I'm already getting ready for BYU to beat up on Utah this Saturday.

Pretty busy afternoon, I had a dentist appointment, followed by a scout service project, then another church meeting this evening, but I did sneak in a nice easy 3 mile run between things. I wasn't going to go out, but glad I did a few miles. The legs are still a little sore from the race, especially the lower quad muscles right above the knee. I might need to get out the stick tonight.

Slow 4.5 miles over to Movie Gallery and back to return a DVD. The legs and hips were both sore and I had no energy and I haven't even had Turkey dinner yet. We are heading to Colorado tomorrow, my grandma passed away yesterday, so the funeral is going to be on Saturday, so I won't be around to run with anybody here the next few days.

Decided I need a little exercise this week, so I went to play basketball. However, the small group I usually play with has now turned into a bigger production and there were way too many people there, so I only played two games and left. I guess I should just stick to running, but I've always used basketball as something to help when I'm burned out with running.

Ran 4.5 miles tonight, up to the substation then around the park and back home. Kind of cooler this evening, long sleeve shirt and gloves, legs felt ok, hip a little tight.

Good run tonight, I need more runs like this to get back into the swing of things. 2 miles before the club run. I ran up the bike trail along state road 18. Then ran out and back for a total of 6 miles with the club. Ran out on the bike trail just past the pond, then had to head back so I could make it home for Jordan's basketball game. 7:34 average.
