Another fight with the mattress but I did win and got out of bed and did the standard La Verkin 5K loop, I ran it in reverse. My body felt terrible the entire time, but at least I got up and did a run. This week has been very busy, but hoping to make it to the club run tonight. Yesterday was especially busy and Jarren was sick, I felt bad Sunny wasn't able to get her run in. I know she really wanted to, but she was busy most of the day. She has been doing really good and I'm excited for her 5K race this weekend.

Nimbus-135

Ran with a group from the Running Store down to Worthen park and back. I did a total of 7 miles, two by myself, then 5 with the group. 7:40 average

Went and played basketball this morning for over an hour. 7 miles run tonight went over to Hurricane, then up onto the 600 North trail and back home. Feeling pretty good, ran one mile in 6:17. Interested to see how I feel tomorrow in the race. Hoping to run as fast as last year.

Hurricane Half not a great day for me, but before I go into details about my race. Just want to say Congrats first to my wife. She did a great job on her first 5K since high school. Her time was about 4 minutes faster than she was hoping for, so she did awesome. Also it was great to see Steve Hooper have a good race, along with Ryan, Bill and Marcie.

My race didn't go as I had hoped, but I think most of that could be attributed to my lack of training the last few weeks. Before my calf injury I felt like I was getting into decent shape and then that injury set my training back about a month. Anyway, last week was a good week with 60 miles, but it was evident today I still have a long way to go with my training.

However, I don't want to be too hard on myself. I felt great on my run last night, maybe even pushed it too hard. Got home watched the Jazz win, which was great then tried to get to bed. Anyway, we had a pretty short night. Both Jarren and Jansen have been a little sick this week and last night was really difficult with Jarren. Sunny and I both took turns being up with him. Things got worse when I set my alarm to go off at 4:50 pm, instead of am. I still don't know how I woke up at 5:25 and managed to catch the bus. My biggest mistake this morning was grabbing a slimfast shake to drink. Not a good idea for a pre-race breakfast I guess. Anyway, got up to the start late and didn't have much time to warm-up.

The race started off ok, but I probably went out too fast which might have lead me to feeling so terrible later on.

1-6:01

2-5:47

3-5:59

4-6:23

5-6:23-Really start feeling tight and some cramping

6-6:42- Pretty much lost all focus on these next three miles and figured I would just try to enjoy the scenery

7-7:08-walked through the aid station and did some stretching

8-6:42

9-5:44 tried to push it on the downhill, but really not feeling that great

10-6:22

11-7:07-really struggled running through La Verkin

12-7:56- Got chicked here by Erica Schramm, but didn't even care.

13-7:04- Just nice and easy

Overall time was 1:25:35 (6:34 average) which was 5:40 slower than last year.

Even though I didn't run as well as I wanted to or should have I was still happy to be at the finish and listen to other people talk about their races. I've been pretty fortunate the last few years to usually have decent races, but today just wasn't one of those days. So I guess we just move on and continue training and get ready for the next event.

When we got home I tried to take a nap, but ended up spending more time in the bathroom vomiting, so maybe now I'm coming down with the same thing my boys had.

This afternoon has been one of mostly laying around and dealing with stomach issues. I did manage to roto till the garden area an hour ago, but that took about all the strength I had.

Side note my weight has been going down, which is good. I've been right around 145 (I was 155 at Christmas) but would like to get it closer to 135-137 this summer.

Another rough night as Jarren was up again not feeling good. Got out and did 3 easy miles this morning. Still upset I didn't race very good this past weekend.

Great run for me this evening. I got done with driver's ed and I knew I had a birthday party to be at out in Santa Clara, so I decided to run from Millcreek High School basically out to Snow Canyon High School. I figured the route would be around 9 to 10 miles long and I was right it was exactly 10 miles when I got to Sunny's cousin's house. The first four miles were great running along the river trail. The next 6 were more of a challenge as it was a gradual uphill around Dixie Drive and up through Stonebrook to Santa Clara. Overall average was 7:09 with a few miles here and there under 7 min. Anyway, I felt pretty good on the run and ready to start the week. The weather tonight was pretty nice not too hot, not too cool, cloud cover and just a little headwind to deal with.

Good run tonight. I was worried how I was going to fit things in with driver's ed and scouts. However, the scouts are working on cycling merit badge and they had a 10 mile ride planned tonight, so I talked them into letting me just run instead of bike, which I was actually more happy about doing. We went out past Hurricane Intermediate then back to La Verkin. The 4 miles out I did in 29 minutes for a 7:15 average, coming back I ran 28 minutes for a 7:00 average, then did one easy mile around the neighborhood.

Played basketball this morning, I was pretty tired. Planning some more miles after work, then we are having a birthday party for Jansen, (he is turning six) then I have to get ready for game two of the Lakers/Jazz series.

Not the best run this afternoon. I did 3 miles out and 3 miles back on the 600 North trail. Left calf muscle hurting, and both hips a little sore.

Ran with Clyde and Aaron, we did the 7 mile loop from the store backwards, I think it was actually easier, expect for the fact I was trying to run with Clyde and Aaron and it was plenty hot out. Barely lost to the 7 minute guy. Decent run, especially considering I wasn't feeling too good. Today was one of the first times, I've actually gotten some car sickness while doing Driver's Education.

5 miles down through Confluence Park, then 2 miles to the bridge and back. Warm afternoon, easy run.

Got home from camping in time to head over and take my turn running laps around the track for the relay for life. I ran real easy and even walked a few with some other friends. I ended up only doing 6 miles, so I'll try to get out again this evening.

Stratus-123

I needed 3 miles to hit 60 for the week. Original goal was going to be 70, but somethings came up and I didn't feel to good on a couple of my runs this week, so I cut a few short. Anyway, I just went and did the La Verkin 5K loop 21:30. I ran the first mile way too slow 7:44, so then I challenged myself to try to catch the 7 minute guy, without feeling like I was pushing myself too hard. Second mile was 6:45 and the last mile was 6:23. Ended up with a 6:56 average.

Hour of basketball this morning, planning on doing around 9 miles this afternoon, since I don't have driver's education.

I didn't get in 9 miles, only 6 body feeling stiff and sore. Some pain in the lower left shin, kind of weird. I did explore a new place to run over by the Trails subdivision. I ran up this killer hill, up to a water tank. Between the wind and climbing a hill, I was pretty much wiped out.

Frustrating hip pain has returned! Just when I start increasing my miles and feeling like I'm ready to really train, I get these little annoying aches and pains. I guess I shouldn't complain too much many people have it much worse than me in life. In fact stopping and thinking about it I have a great life and it will be even better next week when school is out. The three best things about teaching June, July, and August. Even though it seems our district here keeps starting school earlier and earlier each year.

Anyway, enough rambling ran with Steve, Bill, and Mike tonight. I got done with Driver's Ed early so I did 4 miles around the running store and Sunset Corner, then Steve, Bill, Mike and I took off on the standard loop. Mike ran back to his house, so we extended the loop just a bit to drop him off, it was good seeing him out there again. We then headed down to the golf course. I really wanted to turn back at Sunset, but was encouraged to continue on. I had to stop for a drink and some stretching down at the golf course and again at one of the parks along the bike path. It is really starting to warm up and still very windy. The run wasn't the best, but glad I got in the miles. average pace for the first 4 miles was 7:41, then average for the last 10 miles was 8:12

Didn't make it over to run with Steve and Bill this morning. I guess Steve had to cancel also. Anyway around noon I had to take the explorer over to get new tires put on, so I just decided to get some miles in while waiting. I ended up doing 10 miles from Discount Tires then down to the river trail and back up River Road. The first six miles were good around 7:15 pace. The last 4 were slower around 8:00 pace. It was already getting pretty warm around 90 when I started. Sounds like everybody had a good time running the Ogden Marathon.

It is really helping me now that Sunny is getting into running. It makes it that much easier to get out and do some easy miles, when you have somebody to go with and talk to. I was able to get 6 more easy miles in tonight, which helped me reach my weekly goal of at least 60 miles per week. I have set this as my bare minimum for weekly mileage throughout the summer (unless my body or an injury tells me otherwise, I will shoot to run at least 60 miles a week through the summer. The main goal will be to work up to 80-90 miles a week. I've never in my life done more than that, so I'm not sure how the body would respond.

The run tonight was down through the Overlook Subdivision, then up to 100 East. After 3.25 miles I dropped Sunny and Jarren off. He feel asleep again in the stroller while I was pushing him. Then I took off and did another 2.75 over toward Hurricane and back. I about got ran off the road, by our great La Verkin City Police Officer, who was driving about 90 mph to investigate something, of course he didn't have his lights on nor siren, which is really what upset me.

Anyway, glad the week is over. After the run Thursday night and then all day yesterday, my legs were really sore. I did some stretching last night and iced a little bit and seemed to feel a bit better today. However, I still ready for a day of rest.

Debated about running on the treadmill or outside in the heat. I went ahead had dinner (BBQ sandwich, which we'll talk about later) then waited around for an hour. Decided to head out around 8 and ran over the 600 North trail to the Sky Mountain Golf Course. I wasn't feel too great to start out with and I was a little worried about my dinner. Anyway, by mile 3 I had to stop and lose half of my sandwich. I felt better after I threw-up so I continued on. Half a mile later I had to stop again, this time I lost the rest of the sandwich. Luckily I was close to the golf course, so I got cleaned up, drank some water then started a 3 mile tempo

Sky Mountain Tempo- 18:01 (average 6:00)

1-6:15 running through the neighborhood, a little uphill

2-5:56 starting to feel pretty good, some decent downhill

3- 5:50 some good downhill at the start, then it evens out the last half.

I was pretty pleased with this effort. However, I think I can get this time down to 17:30 or lower with a little work.

My main goal was just to run between 6:15-6:25 pace, so I was quite a bit faster than that.

Did one mile cool-down, then Sunny picked me up at Brentwood Bowling Alley

16 mile bike ride with the boy scouts. This was challenging as it was similar to running with people of different abilities. We had some scouts that were in great shape, had the right kind of bike and cruised right along, then we had a few in the middle, and then we had a few we had to keep stopping and going back for. However, I was pretty pleased with the effort that the scouts made. I know it was a good workout for me. We rode from La Verkin out to Anderson Junction and back.

Now the stress of packing and getting ready for a 10 day trip to Colorado then on to Wisconsin. Hopefully everything will be fun and workout once we get going on our trip. It is usually an adventure whenever we travel, with 3 kids (actually 4 if you count me). Sunny is really good at getting everybody organized.

Well, Sunny and I did a little 5K race this morning in Craig. Hardly anyone showed up, no awards, no post race refreshments, the shirt was too big, and we had to run up very steep hills, and the course was way short, but besides those things it was still nice to get a tempo run in.

1- 6:47- took a little bit to get warmed up and used to the elevation

2-7:08 very steep uphill during this mile

.80-5:07

No competition so I just took it easy, when I finished I jogged back half a mile caught up to Sunny and finished with her.
