2 miles in La Verkin before going over to run with Mike, Bill, and Bruce. Met up with those guys at the Dixie Center and did a nice 7 mile loop out through Bloomington. Nice afternoon and pace was decent average 7:20 overall. Bill and I did one more mile while I was waiting for Sunny to come back and pick me up.

Managed to hit 50 miles again this week, and plan to increase mileage next week toward 60 miles a week and try to maintain that through March.

Played a few games of basketball this morning. Planning on a track workout this evening after driver's ed.

Really good workout tonight. I've tried a few times to do some 1000m repeats but have not been able to do much of a workout, due to either feeling sick or dealing with bad weather. This afternoon, I felt really good and decided before hand that I wanted to do 6 repeats no matter how slow I had to run them.

It was kind of nice, I decided not to do driver's ed tonight, so I got home a little earlier and then did a 2.5 mile warm-up over to Hurricane High School. The high school track team was still practicing, but Coach Prince said it wasn't a problem at all if I wanted to do my workout, so that was nice, except for having to dodge kids standing and visiting in lane 1, plus had to watch out for high school kids learning how to throw the javelin.

Anyway got started and the first three repeats felt great, 4th one not too bad, but the 5th was kind of a struggle. I was ready to stop after 5, but I just decided to give myself a little more recovery and then really tried to push it on the last one. I was really pleased with the consistency of the repeats and I was right in time zone I was shooting for 3:33-3:38. I did 100 m recovery between each which was about 1:30.

Did two more lap to finish to make it 5 miles on the track, then a very easy 2.5 miles home. Good start to the week and one big workout in the bag.

Another morning at the gym. Planning on running 10-12 tonight after work. Tough run tonight, I drove up to some trails between La Verkin and Virgin and did a 9 mile loop out through the desert. For part of the run I made it over to Sheep Bridge Road then followed that out to the Quary Trail then ran on that for a bit, then came back. I got back to the highway and picked up the pace a little the last two miles. Overall, nice to see some different country and do a new run, but my legs are feeling a little tired now from the ups and downs of trail running. As the guys in the club know I'm usually not a real big fan of trail running.

Run with the club, up over the trail above the golf course.  We came out on Main the extended down past the temple and over to the college, then back on Tabernacle and Diagonal.  I felt pretty good throughout the run, and even managed to stay with the group for the most part on the trails.

Stratus- 9 First day wearing the shoes and they felt pretty good.

I wanted to watch the mile race this morning at the Hurricane Track meet, so I didn't go over and run with the club. Anyway, I did an 8 mile loop over the 600 North trail, to Sky Mountain Golf Course, then back on the highway to the high school, watched the meet, then did a 1.5 loop cool-down with Hayden, Karl, and a few of the Timpview kids. Then 2.5 miles home. I'm wanting to go out again this afternoon and get a few more miles in to make it 60 for the week.

Stratus- 21 I'm really liking the feel of these shoes.

I went out and did 4 more miles this afternoon, pretty windy as I headed up the La Verkin Twist, but was nice coming back down. I hit my goal for the week and should be able to get in a good week this coming week with Spring Break and a little more time.

I was going to do a track workout today, but ran over to Hurricane High School and found Cross Creek working out on the track, so I decided to put my track workout off until tomorrow, which might be fine.  I'll run hard tomorrow, then get ready for the 10K race on Saturday.  Anyway, after 3 miles over to the high school I was able to flag down my father in-law and had him drive me out to the Brentwood Bowling Alley and I ran 8 miles back into Hurricane over the 600 North Trail.  The last two miles I decided to do a tempo, actually a little faster than tempo pace from the substation to my house.

1-5:58 Good mile with some downhill

2-5:51 I thought this mile would be quite a bit slower than the first, since it didn't have as much downhill.  Anyway, it turned out to be faster and I felt really good.  I was especially happy, since I had already ran 9 miles and I was feeling a little tired.

An easy 6 mile run up past Pah Tempe, did 3 miles out and 3 miles back. I've been curious to do this run before, but always got scared off by the No Trespassing Sign, anyway today I just decided to go for it and take the risk of getting shot by some angry landowner. It was a nice trail run right along the river. For some reason legs were a little sore today.

1.5 hours of basketball this morning, feeling a little tired now. Did a 6 mile run tonight, Sunny dropped me off at the Chevron and I ran out to my school 2 miles easy, copied a bunch of papers for next week when classes start back up then I did 4 miles pretty easy home 7:30 average.

Had a guy come give us an estimate for a swimming pool today. We are now thinking of not selling our house and not building, maybe just stay put. Build a pool, do some remodeling inside, and put in a nice basketball court with a breakaway rim. I used to spend hours shooting baskets when I was younger, but never really had that nice of a court. I guess now since I'm the parent I might build the court I always wanted as a kid. Actually, I don't want that to sound like I'm complaining, my parents were awesome and I have great memories of growing up.

Good club run, we did a preview of the Spectrum 10K course. Mike was kind enough to drive us up, then we ran down through Snow Canyon State Park. I'm excited for the race, but I'm not convinced it will be any faster than last year's course, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. We ended up finishing at Mike's house which made the run 10 miles, a little farther than I was planning on going and the pace was a little faster 7:20 average, but it is all good.

An hour and twenty minutes of basketball this morning. Legs and hips hurting from the run last night, anyway feeling some fatigue this morning, but hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow. I'll just do a few easy miles this afternoon.

Did two easy miles with Sunny, up to her parent's house and back, then I did 2 more miles to the fire hydrant and back.  Legs still feeling a little heavy.

Decent race for me today. I was a little worried going into the race, I didn't feel that great this morning and my legs were still tired from the last few days. Anyway, did 1 mile warm-up up by the starting line, then shed the warm-ups and got ready to race. Quite a few fast guys so I knew it would be a fast race. My goal was to try to run under 36:00 and place in my age division. I was 3rd overall last year, but knew I wouldn't place that high this year with Nick, Clyde and Dave all in the race.

1-5:06 Good first mile and in decent position top 12

2-5:50 Catch up to Ryan and run with him for awhile. We traded off between miles 2 and 3. I passed Lindsey here which made me feel better, he smoked me at Painter's 5K.

3-5:38 Another good mile, however at the beginning of this mile I was ready to just bag the race, I really wasn't feeling too good or having that much fun. Steve Hooper caught up to me and we worked the downhill section together which helped me mentally

4-6:00 Felt pretty good going through the neighborhood. A guy from Vegas that also smoked me at Painter's caught up to me on this mile and then him and I started battling. Steve dropped off just a bit.

5-6:07 Still battling the Vegas guy at this point I figure I'm at least in the top 10. I took the lead for awhile, but couldn't seem to drop him

6-6:10 On this mile, the Vegas guy actually put some distance on me and I really thought I wouldn't be able to reel him in, but I did. It was a nice challenge to the finish, I would pass him and then he would pass me. With about .30 he passed me and I figured it was over, however I just kept pushing it and was able to out kick him at the finish.

.2-.59

Overall, pleased with the race, I feel like I'm in quite a bit better shape than a few months ago at Painter's. I ran the first three miles today in 16:35 compared to 18 something a few months ago, granted much of the first three miles is downhill. I ran 35:52 (5:48 average) so I met my first goal of breaking 36 and ended up placing 2nd in 30-34 age group, so I was happy about that. Actually going back and looking at last year's time I was 3 seconds faster, so even with the change of course I think it was similar to last year.

Anyway, the Fast Running Bloggers did quite well. 5 out of the top 10 places.

Ohana-

Ran 2 easy miles tonight with Sunny up to the fire hydrant and back. Going up we hit 10:37 and on the way back we were flying 10:02. Actually, my wife is getting in better shape and I think she is targeting the local La Verkin 5K on the 4th of July as her first race in a long time. Even though I think she could run a 5K right now and be able to finish without any problems.

The two miles tonight, put me over 60 miles for the week, so I hit my weekly goal again. The next two weeks are going to be a struggle as I am teaching a driver's education course the next 10 days, I guess I might just have to get up early like Dave, Logan and so many others and try to get in some miles in the mornings.

Not much time today. I got home from work at 7:45 pm, had some dinner, played with the kids for 30 minutes. Then did a quick 6 miles over to Hurricane and back. Ran to Wendy's in 24:40 then home in just over 22:00. Sunny and I were going to go and do two more miles, but decided not to. She did 2.5 miles without stopping this morning on the treadmill. Hope to have a little more time tomorrow, but the next two weeks are going to be very busy.

Another busy day, but did manage to have a good workout tonight even though my legs felt tired and sore, I decided to push through a hill workout and figured I would try to make my body learn to work a little harder especially when I'm tired. I know that is probably not the best thing to do and a good way to get injured, but I felt pretty safe in what I was doing tonight.

Anyway I started with 2 miles easy warm-up then did 6xPah Tempe hill repeats. Three weeks ago I did 5 repeats and managed decent times. Comparing today, with last week I would say this was a better workout because.

1. I did one more repeat

2. I was still tired from the 10K race on Saturday

3. I was under a little more stress this week compared to a few weeks ago

4. Had to deal with a headwind (imagine that in Hurricane, UT), which slowed me down some.

1-2:17 not too pleased with this first repeat, a little slower than I thought it would be.

2-2:13 picked it up

3-2:14 not feeling very good, but tried to make myself feel better by telling myself I was half way done.

4-2:12 This one felt the best out of all the repeats and I was tempted to stop after this, which would have left me feeling satisfied and happy at the moment, but probably guilty later on

5-2:15 I didn't look at my watch much on this repeat, but I figured I would be right at 2:15 and I was.

Gave myself a little extra rest and started coughing a lot, but didn't throw-up, almost but no good stories to share

6- 2:12 Good solid repeat to finish with and now very happy to be done.

Did an easy two mile jog home. A half mile into my cool down I ran into my wife, so that was nice she came out to jog home with me. She ran two miles this morning and another 1.5 tonight.

I'm almost tempted to just set up a blog for her. She has been running quite a bit more lately which is good.

Big zero today. Things were a bit too busy, and by the time I finally got home and really had no desire to run. I know that is not the right kind of attitude, but I plan to hit it hard tomorrow and Saturday. I probably won't hit 60 miles for the week now, but hopefully I'll be around 55.

Good morning of basketball, lots of running. Planning on doing a tempo run this afternoon. Hopefully a total of 10-12 miles. Didn't do the tempo run, instead did a 10.5 mile loop up along 600 North Trail to the golf course, then back on the Highway to Hurricane, past the park then home. Time 1:23:35 Average pace was 7:57, legs were sore, especially calves. Might do a couple more miles tonight with Sunny.

Not a very good run for me. I was feeling pretty sore and tired from the beginning, struggled the first 5.7 miles on the warm-up and jogged .3 over to the start of the trail then attempted a tempo run on the second lap. I felt my legs cramping up and backed off the pace a little 2 miles into the tempo. I ended the 5 miles with a 6:30 average, so quite a bit slower than I would have liked. I was hoping to be closer to 6:15, but oh well. Sometimes you have to listen to the body. I think I've been under too much stress this week and I'm feeling a little run down. Did another 3.7 miles easy, and I mean very easy and pretty slow.

Basketball this morning. Body still feeling sore and tired from Friday and Saturday for some reason.

Good workout tonight. I was just going to do an easy 2 miles up and 2 miles back down the La Verkin Twist. But then decided to push it a little and do 3 miles up to the Gun Club and 3 miles back down the Twist. Basically had four goals

1. Don't get hit by a car- I need to get a light or reflective vest, especially for this stretch of road.

2. Don't lose my dinner (I ate a chicken fajita, waited 15 minutes then started my workout) I didn't have time to sit around, still on the tight schedule with teaching the Dr. Ed class.

2. Run the first three uphill under 24:00 anything in the 7 minute average range would be good

3. On the way back try as hard as I can to run under 18:00

Anyway, I'm glad to say I accomplished all 4 goals. Especially glad number one worked out.

1-7:26 Not to hilly running up 300 West

2-7:55 Had to step off the road a few times, dodging cars.

3-8:02 Good effort up the steepest part of the run.

23:23

Turn around reset watch

1-5:42 Nice downhill, feeling pretty good

2-5:49 Starting to worry a little about my dinner right now

3-5:45 This mile was pretty flat so I was happy with the time, but still very concerned about losing my dinner.

17:17- 5:45 average

Got home and talked Sunny in doing a few easy cool down miles. We were going to only do 2, but we ran into some ladies from our ward so we extended our run with them and ended up running 3.

Difficult morning.  I was playing basketball this morning and I was going up for a rebound and felt a pop and immediate pain in my left calf muscle.  I'm worried I tore a muscle or did some damage, it was very painful trying to walk to my car and I've been in slow gear all morning now.  I know the comments that will be coming, because I've already got them from my wife.  "You shouldn't be playing basketball."  Anyway, hopefully this is nothing to major.  Bill I know you had some calf issues, what were the symptoms and remedies?

Calf muscle feels quite a bit better today.  I was pretty worried yesterday, but spent most of the day icing and just resting.  I put on quite a bit of wintercrest last night and I can at least walk around a little better today.  However, I still think it will be a while before I resume any running.

Still resting the calf muscle. Went over to the running store this afternoon. Sunny bought some shorts and we ordered a baby jogger. I'm thinking more and more about doing the Deseret News Marathon now instead of Ogden. Sounds like Steve, Clyde and Bill are thinking of doing this marathon, so it might be fun to train for this together. My training has been decent recently, and I think after I get over this minor calf strain I will be ready to increase my mileage some in April, May and June and could really focus on a fast marathon in July. I will be out in Wisconsin for one week in June, and a second week I will be in Salt Lake all week, but should have plenty of time to train. The only week that really looks in question would be July 7-12 when I have scout camp, but I guess that would be a like two weeks before the marathon, so I would maybe be doing a mini taper anyway. Anybody have experience running Deseret News as compared to other marathons?

Just went out and tried to run 2 miles easy. I managed to walk/jog the first mile, but pretty much resorted to walking the second mile home. I wanted to test the calf and how much pain I felt and could stand. I was still favoring it quite a bit and it was throwing off my stride so I still need to take it real easy.
