Basketball this morning. Planning on doing six miles tonight and an easy 10-12 mile run tomorrow. Went to bed too late last night and up too early this morning, now I'm dragging a bit.

Ran 8 miles tonight, down past Pah Tempe, then back up into La Verkin over 100 East, then out to the Gravel Pit, through Trails Subdivision, and back home through Confluence Park. The run felt pretty good, until I hit a good stretch of mud and added some extra weight to the shoes.

Busy day, but I knew I needed to get in at least 8 miles so that I could hit my goal of 50 miles for the week. After spending much of the day helping my father in-law with a tiling job and listening to President Hinckley's funeral I finally got my run in late this afternoon, and it turned out to be a really good run. Sunny drove me up past Toquerville and I did a two mile warm-up followed by a 4 mile tempo, then 2 mile cool-down.

Splits-

Warm-up: 7:45 average

Tempo

1-6:15 feeling easy, nice downhill

2-6:24 running through Toquerville rolling

3-6:16- I was most pleased with this mile, the first part has some uphill leaving Toquerville, but I really worked the last half of this mile and into the last mile

4-5:53 zoomin' downhill and trying not to get hit by cars, this is a real narrow section of road.

Time: 24:50 so a 6:13 average

Cool down: easy two miles up the hill into La Verkin and back home.

Now it is off to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate Jordan's birthday and a nice way to finish off the week.

No run today.  In fact I was sick enough I decided to stay home from work, which doesn't happen very often.  I hope I get over this cold/flu very soon.

Another sick day with no running, but I am starting to feel a little better. I'm just a little upset, because the last two weeks had been really good for me.  I'm also going out of town this weekend, so it will be interesting to see how much running I get done.

First run of the week due to being sick the earlier part of the week. I did the 7 mile route with the club. The first five felt ok, but the last two miles up Sunset was just killer. Coughing the whole way.

I ran over to Hurricane High and was going to do some 1000m repeats, did one and about coughed up a lung, so I figured better not push it any more. I've been feeling better the last two days but still have a little sickness. I ended up doing one mile on the track then came home, so a total of 6 miles pretty easy. I think I might have to ease into this week. It will be nice on Thursday I only have school for 4 hours, so maybe I can get in a couple of decent workouts.

On my way over to Hurricane there were lots of emergency vehicles near the bridge. Apparently, a five year old boy fell off the cliff somewhere in the area while he was chasing his dog. I stopped and tried to listen in on the story. Anyway, it really upset me the rest of the run. I have a five year old boy along with a 12 year old and an 18 month old and I just couldn't imagine my life without any of them.

Very busy day, between parent teacher conferences, driver's education, and then scouts, but did manage to get out at 8:30 this evening. I did 3 miles easy 7:45 avg. Then Sunny wanted to go for a few miles, which was awesome. She has been doing about 30 minutes everyday on the treadmill usually doing a walk, jog routine fastest pace being 12:00 minutes. Anyway we did a two mile run over to the bridge and back. The first mile was in 11:48 which included a short walk across the bridge and we were running uphill. Coming back I challenged her to run at least a minute faster. On the way back we did have to stop for just a bit, but she was able to run the second mile in 10:38, so a 1:10 faster. All in all a good two mile run to finish off the day for her.

Ran with the club tonight. Before I left with the group I did a 3 mile warm-up 1.5 miles up state road 18 on the bike path and then 1.5 back down. 7:50 average.

Then did 3 easy miles warm-up and I knew Steve was going to do about 6 miles of tempo pace, and I had been planning on doing about 4 since I haven't done any faster stuff so far this week. I was pretty pleased with the miles I ran at tempo pace. A little disappointed the last few miles as I stopped to get a drink then ran the last bit uphill alone. My legs started to cramp up a bit, but overall a decent run, except for my Hunan's Chinese Buffet from lunch that gave me stomach problems on and off the entire run. Overall average was 7:22 so pretty good.

Tempo miles

1-6:07- feeling pretty relaxed

2-6:14- feeling fine

3-6:28- had to slow down a bit trying to get onto the far way at the golf course

4-6:48- some tough hills to climb here, but the effort felt more like 6:15 or faster.

I think the 13 miles tonight, is the longest run I've done since November, so that is a positive, still I need to be doing more. I really felt like I had two good weeks, then I got sick last week and took a step back. Anyway hoping to hit 50 miles this week and then maybe bump it up a little the following week. By March I would like to be running at least 60 miles a week, and then 70 miles a week in April. I really think if I can be more consistent this spring it will help me have a better base and routine going into the summer, when I can try to run a little higher mileage maybe.

Struggled getting up this morning. I was going to go play basketball but my legs and hips felt pretty sore from the run last night. I'm going to try to do around 8 miles this afternoon.

Got out this afternoon, after taking a nice hour long nap. Anyway, the wind was just terrible. I ran from the house over 600 North Trail to Sky Mountain Golf Course and down to Brentwood Bowling Alley. Felt pretty tight during the run legs and hips very sore. Averge time 8:14 slow, but quite a bit of wind and taking it easy.

Sasha sometimes shares some of his crazy running dreams, and last night I had a pretty weired one. I was back in Colorado going on a run with my old assistant high school coach, (we coached three years together and got along pretty good) Anyway it was in the middle of winter and we were driving out to this place to run down by the river, and for some strange reason the road just seemed to end and we ended up going into the river. Of course I was pretty scared but was able to kick open the door and swim to the bank. However, since it was winter time I was very cold. When we got out of the water, we both took off running as fast as we could to this nearby warehouse. For some strange reason I had a lighter in my pocket and we were able to start a fire and we just started throwing anything we could find into the fire. The next thing I remember in my dream, was the fact the entire building was now on fire and we were still inside. I wasn't even worried about getting out I was just trying to get warm. Anyway, I do remember once we got out all of these high school kids from our team came running, and told us we had taken the wrong turn and they were ready for us to finish the run with them. I just remember saying hey I need to call my dad first and tell him what just happened. I then asked for a cell phone and this was the funny thing, every high school kid had a cell phone on them, some even had two or three. Anyway, it was a pretty crazy dream.

Ok, sorry about rambling now back to my real run today. Club run met and Mike's and drove out on Utah Hill. I haven't done too many long runs and the start of this past week I was still struggling some with sickness, so I figured if I could do at least 12 that would be great, then I will go for 2 more this evening to finish the week at 50. After Thursday's run I was really sore and tight. Yesterday's 8 miles was a struggle, but I spent quite a bit of time stretching last night and even used the stick and this morning I felt pretty good. I ran the first 9 miles in a 7:07 average, with a few miles down in the 6:40's. The last three miles I ran through Santa Clara and slowed down a bit. Overall, a good run, and glad I made the effort to get out and come over, even though I didn't run with anybody (you guys all animals and can run further than me! but someday soon I should be able to hang with the group)

After spending most of the morning drilling holes in the sidewalk with a hammer drill so the scouts could put flags out, I was ready for a run and something that didn't require as much labor. I did an easy 2.5 mile warm-up over to Hurricane High School then 3x1 mile @ LT Pace with 400 m recovery which I figured right now would be around 6:00 pace.

1-5:55 This felt pretty easy

2-5:56-This felt a little bit harder, in fact I thought when I got done with this one that is was probably good enough and could be done with my workout, however I knew I had planned to do three, so I should probably attempt at least one more.

3-5:50- Glad I did this one, once I got into it, I started to feel real good, so I picked it up a little.

Did 2.5 mile recovery home. I kind of struggled on the way home, not feeling too good.

Pretty good run this evening. Ran on 100 East then up past the green water tank on the dirt trail, up to the top where the La Verkin Overlook turn-off is. The first mile was good, but the next two miles of steady climbing uphill on the trail were more difficult. I came back down on the highway and hit a few miles under 7:00. Finished with an overall average of 7:47. I was planning on just doing 6 miles today, but I still might go out tonight for another easy 2 miles after scouts if Sunny feels like going.

Missed the club run, I have a luau tonight at school, so I did 9 miles this afternoon. I first did a two mile warm-up, then 3 miles at tinman tempo pace.

1-6:23 good flat mile

2-6:33 some uphill

3-6:16 a little downhill.

I was glad I was able to do 3 miles, because I really wasn't feeling that good when I got home from work. Anyway, the last 4 miles were pretty slow and easy. I found a new trail or way to get up on the 600 North trail so I guess that was the exciting part of the run.

Good 8 mile run this evening, however I'm a little upset at myself that I didn't make it over to run with some of the guys this morning. Anyway, I ran from Steve's house out through the fields then over to River Road and back to his house. I felt ok, not great lots of stomach issues from eating Bajio's for lunch, not too wise on my part. Overall the average was 7:20.

I had a terrible headache much of the day, and didn't know if I would get any miles in today. After two hours of driver's ed, I decided I would attempt a workout. My schedule called for 5x Pah Tempe hill repeats (.32m). These would be the first hill repeats of the new year and also turned out to be my first puke session of the new year.

2-21-07
 8-27-07 2-25-08
 2:09 2:14 2:12
 2:10 2:13 2:13
 2:08 2:13 2:17
 2:14 2:08 2:15
  2:09 2:17
  2:06

After a two mile warm-up and stretching I started the first one.

1-2:12 pretty good for the first one. in fact probably faster than I wanted the first one to be.

2-2:13 Interested to see if this would be much slower than the first. Turned out to be about the same time. After this one, is when the sickness really hit. On the recovery had to stop and leave my lunch on the side of the road.

3-2:17 Stomach feeling a little better, but overall I was weak on this repeat. Thought about stopping here, but instead just turned around and started my recovery job back down the hill and by the time I got to the bottom, I was ready to go again.

4-2:15 Better focus, but once again had to stop and puke on the recovery.

5-2:17 Weak, but trying hard just to finish.

Not the best workout, but glad I hung with it and did 5 repeats. Today was more a mental victory, I had a number of things going wrong and plenty of reasons I could have stopped, but I accomplished what I wanted to today. The cool-down was cut short just a bit 1.5 miles.

Pretty busy day today. Did 2 hours of driver's ed after school, got home and felt a little sick and tired, same headache problems as yesterday. Anyway went to Young Men's from 7:00 to 8:30, then decided to head out the door at 8:45 pm for some easy miles. I did 3 miles, then came back to the house to see if Sunny was ready to go for her 2 miles, she still didn't have Jarren to sleep, so I did another 2 miles easy, then came back and this time she was ready, we did our route over and past the bridge. Last time she did the mile going over in 11:48, tonight she did the mile over in 10:33 (much faster!) however, I think she over did it on the first mile, and the second mile back home which is downhill and should be easier, was actually the slower mile for her tonight (11:57) Oh well, it was still nice to go for a little run together and it helped me to get in two more easy miles. Tomorrow won't be as busy so maybe I will do a longer run.

Basketball this morning.

Decent run this evening. Did the La Verkin Overlook Loop, including the first two miles up the mountain trail which I was dreading, but did anyway.

1-10:50- trying my best to run/jog/walk whatever it took to get up the trail.

2-10:47- more of the same run/walk/jog/wipe off sweat/repeat

Had to stop for a bit at the top and of course take in the view, best part of the run you really have a great view of La Verkin, Toquerville, Hurricane.

Now the fun downhill miles, just wanting to take them easy.

3-7:20

4-7:25

5-6:30

6-7:00

7-7:55 ran into a fellow teacher and stopped to talk for a minute, forgot to stop my watch so this mile was actually closer to 7:00 minute pace or under.

Anyway, beautiful afternoon in Southern Utah. I might do a few more miles tonight with Sunny if she feels up to it. I'm planning on running with the club tomorrow if people are going to be there.
